MAI PHAN-REDWINE Mai has been practicing yoga, mostly Bikram, for nearly ten years. For most of that time, she viewed yoga as primarily a good workout. However, when Mai joined The Ashram, she learned that yoga is much more than just holding poses for 90 minutes. Recognizing that yoga always provides a great workout for the body, Mai appreciates that the greatest benefit is the serenity one receives from practicing.
As a professional chef, Mai's work is fast-paced, hot, and physically demanding – helped by her yoga practice, which gives her greater physical and mental strength. For Mai, this is the essence of why she teaches: to help people transform their bodies and transcend the stresses, fatigue, and tension of everyday life.
In her teaching, she strives to incorporate the yoga sutra 2:46 – “Sthira (steady) sukham (comfortable ease) asanam (meditative posture)” – as the foundation of each class. Through her guidance and encouragement, Mai invites her students to make their time together a unique, personal experience which allows them to meditate deeply, calmly, and quietly in each pose with minimal disruption. |
