LIS WAGNER

Lis was first exposed to yoga while living in Boulder, Colorado for a summer in 2004. With a strong background in dance, she was immediately drawn to the physical challenge and beauty of asana. Upon returning home to Bellevue she was introduced to Gary’s classes soon before the Ashram opened, and began practicing Bikram and Power yoga religiously.

Her practice was so empowering and effective that Lis achieved second place in her age group at her first triathlon, for which she trained by primarily doing hot yoga.

After completing her bachelor’s degree from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, Lis returned to the Seattle area to complete her 200-hour RYT certification through 8 Limbs Yoga Centers. Completed in April of 2011, the 7-month training garnered a wealth of knowledge about anatomy and Iyengar-based alignment as well as the vast and multifaceted world of yoga beyond asana. Lis’s 5 years of training with Gary have fueled her love affair with the unique and vigorous mental challenge of yoga that the Ashram offers.

Lis’s classes offer a distinctive blend of emphasis on the basics, integrity and subtlety in asana, and playful work with inversions. (In her spare time, you can find Lis doing handstands in random places).

She enjoys the fact that yoga allows her to be a perpetual student, and strives to bring something fresh and interesting to each of her classes. She embraces teaching as a means to build authentic community as well as a celebration of balance, strength, health, and individual vitality.
